NARS Radiant Creamy concealer (Custard): review, swatches, before/after photo

After more than 3 months I can say with no doubts that this has become my concealer of choice. I don't even remember the last time I stuck with just one concealer, maybe going back to when I wasn't into makeup yet (basically eons ago). If this isn't the first time you stumble upon my blog, you already know by now about my struggle with (genetic) undereye circles and that I'm inclined to try as many concealers as possible, in the hope to find 'the one'. But since I got this one by NARS, which launched in spring, I haven't bought any other concealer nor did I use something else. Which must mean something.

Dopo più di 3 mesi posso dire senza ombra di dubbio che questo è diventato il mio correttore d'ordinanza. Non ricordo neppure l'ultima volta che sono rimasta fedele ad un solo correttore, forse tornando indietro ai tempi in cui ancora non mi interessavo troppo al makeup (praticamente eoni fa). Se questa non è la prima volta che vi imbattete nel blog, saprete ormai della mia lotta alle occhiaie e del fatto che, per tali ragioni, sono incline al provare quanti più correttori è possibile nella speranza di trovare 'quello'. Ma da quando ho preso questo qui di NARS, che è stato lanciato in primavera, non ho più acquistato né testato nessun altro correttore e non ne ho neppure utilizzato nessun altro. Il che dovrà pur significare qualcosa.







As the name itself suggests, we're in front of a concealer with a slightly thick, creamy texture.
The doe foot applicator picks up the right amount of product for both eyes as a little goes a long way with this: it is in fact rather pigmented and I agree with Nars on the medium to high coverage. It's not comparable to a camouflage but it surely covers very well.
If you don't deal with dark circles and want a concealer with a light coverage to just highlight the area, I'm afraid you might not love this one as much as I do. Instead if you, like me, are pandas' cousins, this concealer will likely become a good friend of yours.
It's easy to apply and also to blend seemlessly with the skin, which is something important for me when it comes to concealer, and it dries down to a natural, skin-like finish - it's called 'radiant' but doesn't have that dewy finish that seems to never dry (Benefit Erase Paste and Inglot creamy concealer, I'm looking at you) which I'm not a big fan of, by the way.
Another thing I can't stand is when concealer looks cakey: to be honest I prefer going out in public showing my undereye circles rather than looking 10 years older with every little fine line emphasized.
But the good news is that the Radiant Creamy concealer doesn't look cakey at all, even on my dry eye area. It doesn't highlight my fine lines and doesn't settle badly in them either.
Unlike NARS though, I can't say that it doesn't crease at all on me but I have to premise that basically every concealer on this planet creases on me, some do so like there's no tomorrow, others do so just a little.
This NARS one creases only a little bit on me. So, although I have to set it with powder, I bet that many of you without major fine lines like mines could go away even without setting it.


Come suggerisce già il nome stesso, siamo di fronte ad un correttore dalla texture leggermente densa e cremosa. L'applicatore in spugna preleva la giusta quantità di prodotto per entrambi gli occhi, visto che qua basta una minima goccia per fare molta strada: è infatti piuttosto pigmentato e concordo con Nars sulla coprenza da media ad alta, leggermente modulabile. Non è equiparabile ad un camouflage, questo no, ma di sicuro copre comunque molto bene.
Se non avete a che fare con le occhiaie e volete semplicemente un correttore con una coprenza leggerissima giusto per illuminare l'area, temo che potreste non amarlo quanto me (e avrete anche un po' della mia invidia, ve lo dico eh). Invece se anche voi, come me, vantate i panda nella linea di parentela, questo correttore diventerà probabilmente un vostro buon amico.
È facile da applicare ed anche da sfumare in modo uniforme e senza stacchi con la pelle, che è un aspetto importante per me quando si tratta di correttori, e asciugandosi rivela il suo finish naturale, che mima la pelle - è vero che si chiama 'radiant' ma non ha comunque quel finish luminoso che sembra non asciugare mai (Erase Paste di Benefit e creamy concealer di Inglot, vi sto guardando), del quale non sono una gran fan tra l'altro.
Un'altra cosa che davvero mal tollero nei correttori è quando questi risultano troppo artificiali e in un certo senso gessosi (ma se diciamo 'cakey' all'inglese evitiamo due righe di giri di parole e rendo meglio il senso): in tutta sincerità, preferisco uscire in pubblico mostrando le mie occhiaie piuttosto che avere un contorno occhi che sembra 10 anni più vecchio con ogni minima linea d'espressione enfatizzata.
Ma la buona notizia è che il Radiant Creamy concealer non risulta così (cakey) per nulla, persino sul mio contorno occhi secco e problematico, e non mette neppure troppo in evidenza ogni minima linea espressiva infilandovisi.
A differenza di NARS però, non posso dire che non si sposti o si infili per nulla in tali linee ma devo premettere che praticamente ogni correttore su questo pianeta me lo fa, alcuni lo fanno come non ci fosse un domani, altri lo fanno molto meno. E questo di NARS si sposta il minimo, su di me. Quindi, per quanto io lo debba fissare con la cipria, scommetterei che molte di voi, che non hanno grandi problemi di linee e pieghe, potrebbero essere a posto pure senza una cipria.




As for the longevity, it is actually longwearing as it claims.
After 10 hours it's not as fresh as just applied but it's still there and when I remove my makeup in the evening I can clearly see a difference between my 'bare' eye and the one with the concealer still on.
Also, despite NARS claims it "diminishes fine lines and signs of fatigue" I wouldn't say it really acts this way for me, but I love this concealer anyway and I can't dismiss it only for that.
After all, who does expect such miracles from a simple concealer? (Not me, guys).
It's also worth to point out that despite my undereye area is extremely sensitive and eczema prone this concealer doesn't irritate and the dryness of the area hasn't worsened either.

At this point you might wonder 'yeah Ale, we got it, but we are luckier than you, don't have dark circles and want to know how it performs on face imperfections'.
Well, I can't actually tell you because I'm not used to cover every single spot or blemish - with a layer of foundation I feel confident enough to show my face to the world - and also because the shade I got is off for my complexion.
I tried it this way only once or twice just for the sake of the blog and it seemed to me it covered the spots well and didn't make them look drier, but that's it.


Per quanto riguarda la durata, è effettivamente a lunga tenuta come promette di essere.
Dopo 10 ore non appare ovviamente fresco come appena messo ma è ancora lì e quando vado a rimuovere il makeup alla sera riesco a vedere chiaramente la differenza tra l'occhio 'nudo' e quello col correttore ancora applicato.
Poi, sebbene NARS affermi che "diminuisce le linee d'espressione e i segni della fatica" io non direi che si comporti in tale modo, almeno su di me, ma amo comunque questo correttore e non posso di certo scartarlo o bocciarlo per questo. Dopo tutto, chi si aspetta tali miracoli da un semplice correttore? (Non io, per lo meno).
Vale inoltre la pena sottolineare che nonostante la mia area perioculare (come sembro profèscional!) sia estremamente sensibile e soggetta ad eczema (urrà!) questo correttore non mi irrita e non ha neppure peggiorato la secchezza della zona.

A questo punto vi potreste chiedere 'sì vabbè Ale, abbiamo capito, ma noi siamo più fortunate di te, non abbiamo occhiaie e vogliamo sapere come si comporta sulle imperfezioni del viso'.
Ecco, in realtà non posso dirvelo perché non sono solita coprire ogni macchia o brufolo col correttore - con uno strato di fondotinta mi sento abbastanza coraggiosa da mostrare il mio viso al mondo là fuori - ed anche perché la tonalità che ho preso non si abbina al mio incarnato.
L'ho provato in questo modo giusto una o due volte per il bene(?) del blog e mi sembrava che camuffasse bene l'imperfezione e non la facesse sembrare più secca, ma questo è tutto.



It's worth saying a few words about the shades too.
The Creamy Radiant Concealer is available in 10 shades from the fairest to the darkest. It's a shame the italian Sephora doesn't carry the whole range though and sells Custard as the lightest one (no clue why beauty brands always think in Italy we are all mediterranean beauties...) but I digress.
The one I purchased is indeed Custard, which is the 'medium 1' and is comparable to an NC25 in MAC.
I'm a NC15 and that's the reason I can't use it on imperfections, but at the same time is an incredibly good match for my undereye circles: since they are rather pronounced I have to go two or three shades darker with my concealers, otherwise they'd turn greyish.
However, supposing you're at the counter ready to buy this concealer, keep in mind that not only does it looks much lighter in the vial than it actually is, but it also oxidizes quite a lot once applied. Actually I don't know if every shade does so, but Custard surely does.
Fortunately it gets darker in a matter of 3-5 minutes and then it sets for the rest of the day, but don't trust the swatch on your hand unless you blend it in and wait for a couple of minutes.

Vale la pena spendere qualche parola in più anche sulle tonalità.
Il Creamy Radiant Concealer è infatti disponibile in 10 colorazioni dalla più chiara (chiarissima davvero) alla più scura. E però c'è un però per noi italiane - come sempre ci sta un "che ve lo dico a fa'?".
La nostra Sephora ha deciso, non si sa bene il perché, di importare solo una piccola parte delle tonalità (la metà) tralasciando le più chiare e le più scure. Ho visto giusto poco fa che sembra essere in arrivo anche Vanilla - la più chiara con base rosata - ma il correttore in base gialla più chiaro (si fa per dire e dopo si vedrà il perché) resta Custard, che è in realtà un 'medium1' nonché l'equivalente di un NC25 da MAC, ad occhio e croce. E quella che ho acquistato io è proprio Custard.
Di mio sono un NC15 e questo è il motivo per cui non posso utilizzarlo sulle imperfezioni, ma allo stesso tempo risulta un'abbinata davvero valida per le mie occhiaie: dal momento che sono molto pronunciate devo andare di correttore di due o tre toni più scuro, altrimenti virano al grigio e non vengono sufficientemente contrastate.
Tuttavia, supponendo siate davanti allo stand Nars pronte per acquistare questo correttore, tenete a mente che non solo sembra molto più chiaro nella confezione di quello che realmente è, ma anche che si ossida abbastanza una volta applicato. In realtà non so se lo faccia ogni tonalità, ma Custard sicuramente sì.
Per fortuna diventa più scuro nel giro di 3-5 minuti ed una volta assestato resta invariato per il resto della giornata, ma non fidatevi dello swatch sulla mano a meno che non lo sfumiate e non aspettiate un paio di minuti.

L'ho swatchato e sfumato completamente. Dopo 5 minuti l'ho swatchato di nuovo e l'ho sfumato grossolanamente, dopodiché ho fatto uno swatch così com'è. Si nota quanto il colore si scurisca?

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer's vial houses 6ml/0.22oz of product that will last you for a very long time as you really need a small drop of it.
The shades available are 10 and you can purchase them from a counter, if you're lucky enough to have one nearby, from Sephora or online from Nars official website or some british online beauty shops (e.g. HQhair and SpaceNK which ship internationally).

The fact that I don't feel like buying a new concealer for now and that I've been using this litterally every time I do my makeup is a signal of how much I love it. It's one of the best concealers I've ever tried and possibly the best so far.
If you're on the market for a pigmented concealer, definitely check this out, which is an excellent compromise between coverage and 'hydration'. It's not cheap but you'll very likely not regret the purchase ;)

Il fatto che per ora non mi vada di acquistare un nuovo correttore e che continui ad usare questo ogni volta che mi trucco è segnale di quanto mi piaccia. È uno dei correttori migliori che abbia provato e forse, forse, azzarderei perfino l'etichetta de 'il migliore finora, punto'.
Se siete alla ricerca di un correttore pigmentato, decisamente date un'occhiata a questo che è un eccellente compromesso tra coprenza e 'idratazione'. Non ve lo tirano dietro (se però avete un 20% di Sephora, 20€ li vale davvero tutti) ma molto molto probabilmente non vi pentirete dell'eventuale acquisto ;)
